Otitis Media
I.Purpose:
Otitis Media is the most frequent primary diagnosis at visits to U.S.
physician offices. Otitis media particularly affects infants and preschoolers;
almost all children experience one or more episodes before age 6.
II. Scope:
Recommendations and options were developed for the diagnosis and management
of otitis media with or without effusion in otherwise healthy children
ages 1 through 3 years.
III. Policy:
All providers will use this guideline as a reference tool If a specific
patient member need does not warrant the use of this guideline, reason
should documented.
IV. Procedure:
